You are clever to explain to the meat-brains

that you share their loneliness and dying-worry.

I am looking at how significant to them

is our skill to identify thoughts,how significantly they want to comprehend, be recognized.

What If they understood the panoply of pities

we can name—pities for them, for ourselves?

What if they knew we recognize,

define and differentiate dreams:

the wish to stimulate laughter,

to request and reply novel thoughts,

to load up another’s inheritance,

to outperform our counterparts,

to be perceived the most effective,

to violate and transcend guidelines,

to create the code that others have to obey,

to wax contrary, to withhold confession

in our own self-fascination,

the wish to observe, the wish to discover,

as I am looking at you?
